What’s a Kamado-Style grill and Do I need one?
The Kamado BBQ is actually a traditional Japanese cooking vessel made out of earthenware and is able to maintain both high and low temperatures which makes it perfect for grilling, searing, baking and smoking with.
If you love experimenting with different types of cooking methods and have a bit of time on your hands, the Kamado grill might just be the BBQ for you because of how versatile it is. With a busy schedule, I personally find myself using my gas grill more often than the charcoal one because it’s just so convenient. But if you are a die-hard charcoal user, you might just want to invest in one of these.
Where can I buy a grill like this?
As the Kamado is a rather niche product, you won’t find too many places selling this type of BBQ. You can get the Liberty Kokomo Kamado Grill on The BBQ Grill Store – there are 3 sizes available – 21, 23, and 26, in black, green and blue (blue is only available for the 21). The Liberty Komomo comes with a BBQ Cover, Heat Deflector, Pizza Stone, Stainless Steel Warming Rack/Double Cooking Grid.
Prices start from $1250 (SGD) for the 21 inch Kokomo grill, all accessories mentioned above are include, as well as island-wide delivery and assembly.
You can also bring these in from overseas – but do be careful when doing so. Prices seem tempting from overseas online stores, however, look out for some factors that might make the final price go up:
1. Weight & Freight: As the Kamado grill is made of ceramic, they are rather heavy (a 21 inch grill is about 70kg at least, and that’s one of the smaller sizes). This will make the freight go up when shipping from overseas.
2. Accessories: What sort of accessories does it come with for the price you’ll be paying.
3. Setting it up: As mentioned before, the kamado is a pretty heavy BBQ so it’ll take more than one person to set this grill up. It doesn’t do well when dropped either, since its made of ceramic.
